Kingdom Comfort

Great comments yesterday. All of you verbalized very practically the life of Kingdom focus. It helps for all of us to chew on it together, doesn't it? It seems to make it a little more real life.

Matthew 10:24-25

There is something wrong in Amercian evangelicalism. It seems we spend more time building comfortable places to meet together than we do struggling for life change in the lives of Christ-followers. Are we too comfortable in America, building mega-church upon mega-church while millions around the world (particularly in the 10/40 window) have no access? Have we put ourselves above our master? Have we unconsciously, though we'd never admit it, bought into the health-n-wealth theology we so adamantly deny?

Does the Kingdom life, the eternal life, the abundant life, mean the comfortable and the problemless life? When we face illnesses or tight finances, do we question the Kingdom life? Or, are those circumstances the greatest opportunities for the Kingdom to be expressed in our lives?

What does comfort and the Kingdom have to do with one another? Anything?

What does God's blessing in our lives have to do with the problems of life? Is God not blessing, or is God at work in some strange way, beckoning us to a deeper and more abundant Kingdom life? I'm not suggesting a return to asceticism. I'm just wondering if I have put myself above my master by trying to run from and pray myself out of the slightest struggles of life.

How many requests do we pray for at Wednesday night prayer meeting that are actually prayers for people to be above their master which causes them to forsake an opportunity for a deeper and more abundant Kingdom life? Should not our prayers be that God opens their eyes to His abundance in the midst of their mess?

How about you? What this weekend might allow you to be like your Master and through such a circumstance enjoy more the experience of abundant Kingdom life, bringing great glory and joy to the King?
